RAWALPINDI: A convict in non-terrorism case will be hanged in the Central Jail Adiala on early Tuesday morning, while the execution of another convict was deferred to April 27 by the Lahore High Court (LHC) Rawalpindi Bench on Monday.

Meanwhile, the hanging of a third convict, Shakeel Ahmed, who was to be executed on Tuesday, is likely to be cancelled due to patch up between the two parties.

Muhammad Riaz, who was convicted in a triple murder case in Bhara Kahu of December 9, 1997, will be hanged at the Central Jail on Tuesday. Following the issuance of death warrants by the concerned court of law, jail authorities arranged a last meeting between Riaz and his family on Monday.

The execution of Sarfraz Ahmed was temporarily deferred to April 27 after the heirs of the convict appealed to the Lahore High Court Rawalpindi Bench stating that efforts are being made to reach an agreement with the heirs of the victim.

Another convict, Shakeel Ahmed, who was sentenced to death for murdering his wife Raheela Bibi in July 2000, was to be executed on Tuesday. However, his brother claimed he had reached an agreement with the mother of the victim and the deed for the agreement would soon be handed over to the jail authorities.

According to the jail officials, no official document regarding the suspension of execution orders of Shakeel Ahmed have been received so far.
