ISLAMABAD: President Mamnoon Hussain has summoned a joint session of parliament on April 21 which will be addressed by Chinese President Xi Jinping.

“On a summary initiated by the Ministry of Parliament Affairs, the president has approved prime minister’s advice for summoning a joint sitting of both houses of Majlis-i-Shoora (parliament) on Tuesday, April 21, at 0925 hours in the Parliament House,” said a notification issued by the presidency on Friday.

According to sources, President Xi will inaugurate a 1.2MW project for providing electricity to the parliament building through solar energy.

“After the completion of the project the Parliament House will be the only building in the world which will go green,” a senior official said.

The sources said that before the address, the Chinese president, to be accompanied by National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq, will go to the meeting hall to meet presiding officers of the two houses of parliament and other dignitaries.
