Nasir overpowers Danish to claim CNS Squash title

KARACHI: Top seed Nasir Iqbal struggled to overcome fighting fourth seed Danish Atlas Khan in five gruelling games to win the 11th Chief of the Naval Staff (CNS) International Squash Championship at the PN Roshan Khan-Jahangir Khan Squash Complex here on Tuesday.

Nasir, who remained consistent throughout the event, came under constant pressure and trailed 1-2 before bouncing back to turn the tables on his opponent and win the best of five final lasting 74 minutes.

The scores were 11-9, 4-11, 9-11, 11-2, 11-8.

A beaming Nasir received the winning purse of $2347 from the Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Mohammad Zakaullah and trophy amidst applause from the packed crowd.

Danish was presented with a cash award of $1606 and the runner-up trophy.

Also present at the prize distribution ceremony were Commander Karachi Vice Admiral Syed Arifullah Hussaini, squash legend Jahangir Khan, senior vice-president of the Pakistan Squash Federation Air Vice Marshal Syed Razi Nawab, Commandant PNS Jauhar Cdre Zahid Iqbal, Group Capt Amir Nawab and tournament referee Fahim Gul.

Result:

Final: Nasir Iqbal bt Danish Atlas Khan 11-9, 4-11, 9-11, 11-2, 11-8.
