PESHAWAR: The Gandhara Hindko Academy has formally started functioning after the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government issued a notification in this regard.

This was disclosed at the executive committee meeting of the Gandhara Hindko Board (GHB) — a literary, cultural and social welfare organisation — which is tasked with executing the Gandhara Hindko Academy project.

The participants of the meeting, chaired by GHB chairman Ejaz Ahmad Qureshi, were told that the government had notified the board of governors of the academy under the chairmanship of additional chief secretary, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

The BoG members from GHB include Ejaz Ahmad Qureshi, Dr Adnan Gul, Dr Salahuddin and Mohammad Ziauddin. They are GHB chairman, senior vice-chairman, vice-chairman and general secretary, respectively. Secretary higher education, secretary culture and vice-chancellor of the University of Peshawar are BoG members from the government side.

The meeting was informed that the Gandhara Hindko Academy project had been approved by the planning and development department in the Annual Development Plan of the current financial year.

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa higher education department is the sponsoring agency.

As GHB is the executing agency of the academy, its executive committee members unanimously formed a body to smoothly run the affairs of the academy.

The meeting announced that the academy would also publish books in other languages of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa whose literati couldn’t bring own works in fine print for lack of resources.
