LAHORE: The Technical Education and Vocational Training Authority (Tevta) will encourage private institutes providing free technical training facilities to needy students.

An assurance to this effect was given by Tevta Chairperson Irfan Qaisar Sheikh while speaking as guest of honour at the annual general meeting and prize distribution ceremony of the Defence Welfare Society (DWS) at Defence Club Community Center here on Sunday.

Mr Sheikh said that courses offered at the Technical and Vocational Training Center of the DWS would be examined and certified by Tevta.

“This will increase the employment chances of pass-outs of this center in public and private sectors,” he said adding that Tevta would also recommend students to get training at this center.

Briefing the participants about the programmes launched by Tevta to impart the need-based technical training to youth, Mr Sheikh said the authority had initiated different training programmes without any financial assistance from the government.

By the end of ongoing year, enrolment of students at Tevta institutes would be doubled from the present 100,000.

Later, a memorandum of understanding was also signed between Tevta and DWS to collaborate for the development of skilled human resource for poverty alleviation.
