LAHORE, Sept 26: Pakistan’s Aisam Qureshi caused a major upset in the ongoing Asian Championship in Tashkent, Uzbekistan by toppling the top Uzbek Davis Cupper and former top 100 ATP player Oleg Ogrodov in straight sets 7-5, 6-4.

According to a facsimile message received here Friday, Aisam managed an early lead by breaking Oleg’s serve in the third game of the first set but lost this advantage in the eight games after he fell down while chasing a stretch volley and injured his knee.

He lost four consecutive points after this injury. The young Pakistani however fought back and again broke the Uzbek Davis Cupper in the eleventh game to take a 6-5 lead and then went on to take the first set.

In the second set again Aisam took an early lead by breaking Ogrodov’s serve in the first game and thereafter he merely focused on this own serve and sailed through the second set.

His opponent in the quarterfinal he will face the top Davis cupper of Taiwan Wang Yeu-Tzoo.—APP
