PESHAWAR: Around 40 female Fata students studying in the University of Peshawar were imparted skills in marble mosaic and mining at the varsity’s Pashto Cultural Museum.

The training, which concluded the other day, was organised in collaboration with the World Bank and the College of Home Economics, according to a press release issued here on Tuesday.

The training was held in three batches with each stretching over a week, wherein the students were imparted skills in marble mining, cement tiles and marble mosaic.

Anmol Afridi, a student, was declared as the best designer in the event for her inspiring performance. Vice-Chancellor Professor Mohammad Rasul Jan was the chief guest at the concluding ceremony. He distributed certificates and toolkits among the students.

Principal of the College of Home Economics Professor Kaneez Fatima and representatives of the Fata Secretariat were also present on the occasion. Addressing the ceremony, Rasul Jan said that Pakistan was endowed with the best natural resource in the world in shape of marble, but due to poor extracting techniques over 50 per cent of it got wasted causing great loss to the exchequer. He appreciated the student’s efforts in making beautiful pieces from marble waste.

Dr Jan said that women constituted more than half of the country’s population, and it was critical to bring them into the mainstream of the socio-economic development. Earlier, Dr Kaneez Fatima said that the training was arranged exclusively for female students of Fata with the objective of bringing them into the national development process.
