Pak Suzuki raises bike prices

KARACHI: Despite a stronger Pak rupee against Japanese yen and other international currencies in the last one year, Pak Suzuki Motor Company Limited (PSMCL) has increased the prices of motorbikes.

Meanwhile, Atlas Honda Limited (AHL) had decreased the price of its most popular motorbike models by Rs6,000 on an average.

The new prices of Suzuki bikes had become effective from March 27, 2015.

When contacted, an official of the PSMCL did not give a clear answer as to why the prices were increased despite depreciation of Japanese yen. “The prices have been raised to adjust the high cost of production,” he said, adding that the company imports parts and accessories from various countries and pays both in yen and dollar.

According to a PSMCL circular sent to its authorised dealers, the new price of Raider is Rs101,400 as compared to Rs96,400. The company had raised the price of GS-150 to Rs128,500 from Rs122,000 in June 2014. Sprinter ECO DEL’s new price is Rs88,400 from Rs83,400.

The company had also jacked up the price of imported costly bikes of high engine power. The new price of Hayabusa GSX1300 price had been pushed up to Rs2.6 million from Rs2.5 million, followed by Intruder VZ800 to Rs1.7 million from Rs1.6 million and Bandit GSF650SA to Rs1.550 million from Rs1.5 million.

The PSMCL official said that company is providing Inazuma bikes to Motorway Police. He added that around 150 heavy bikes had been imported in the last one year.

Bike production prospects appear brisk in view of rising imports of completely knocked down (CKD) and semi knocked down kits (SKD).

Chairman Association of Pakistan Motorcycle Assemblers Mohammad Sabir Shaikh said production cost of Pak Suzuki is higher than its competitors as the company has been active in introducing bikes with latest engines and high quality parts.

There is no justification of raising price after strong rupee and decline in fuel prices. Government has failed to ensure that prices should have been reduced due to reduction in input cost. The firm has instead jacked the price; strange.

Most of the bike models in Pakistan are still carrying the design legacy of 1980s and 1990. Why the manufacturers are still playing with price fot these obsolete models? Now a days all companies manufacture bikes with 4 stroke engines, digital meter and displays, alloy wheels, tubeless tyres and new generation designs with better fuel economy but in Pakistan, it is the manufacturers getting the real ride with substandard designs and substandard technology.

@Riaz Belive me brother you people are still using 80s-90s era small engine bikes(just because of corporate & polit. nexus). In India 525 cc Royal Enfield with latest tech comes under 2 Lakh, Bajaj Pulsar 220 just1.25 lakh, Pulsar 400 cc(with ABS etc) 2 lakh, KTM RC 390 2.15 Lakh. we have 27 Bike producers & same goes for cars.

inefficiencies of marketing and production plus the curde strategy to curtail off car prices and pass them on to motorbikes as for suzuki it's management style is more backward than that of toyota indus even. Look for example at the GS 150 it is same model being sold for years, and same results even marketing and advertisement efforts have given little sales increment. there is no modernization no positioning of the bike against arch rival CG 125 (another model pro duced for last 2-+ years as it is). check out the 150 Cc competition in India that is what you get when you allow cartel in an industrial back-bone industry such as automotive. at 130,000 a suzuki GS 150 is twice as not worth it, as it was at 112,500 in 2013.

@Riaz The prices of Suzuki models have been increased to high OVERHEADS of its bureaucracy and to cover up other facilities. Certainly business will be diverted to Honda and other brands; why people should pay high prices for Suzuki Brand.

@sharabi This is the reason why Pak is worried about trade and business with INDIA........Indian products are of high quality and low affordable prices not only for these assets but for food and vegetable prices as well..........What Indians should do they should bring their products DIRECT into Pakistani Market and sell to people direct without any intermediary. In Pakistan we have dishonest and crooked business community.

Indian bikes will not find takers in Pakistan. People are willing to pay premium for obsolete Made in Pakistan bikes. This is a fact.

@Riaz: Govt shouldn't have a say in price hikes (private enterprise). If they have raised the prices the demand should simply shift to more affordable counterparts. Pak Suzuki sales should suffer, and them making a decision to bring the prices back down again.

the autovehicles used in pakistan market is not as per latets technology, as a result such vehicles consume more fuel. a very very big loss to country economy. govt, must invite manufacturers from abroad with efficient vehicle manufacturing, not only one but more then 5 6 companies, which make competition in price and quality.india is one of them.forget nagativities towards india. all neighbouring countries even african arab and european countries too are using indian vehicles which are tough and have long life.

Price hike of a private auto company making news, strange. Over that govt asking them not to do so , very strange. Instead if you had allowed competition to flourish you wouldn't hv to worry about it like we do in India.

Don't buy suzuki! Why can't you export them from India! As few Indian friends mentioned that they have better bikes!. It true why pay so much and buy a 80s model. We can buy a decent second hand car. For this much amount!

This is good. The price of motorcycles should be increased and the number on Pakistani streets need to be limited. They are a menace and hazard on the roads when there are too many motorcycles. Further control of motorcycles are needed and warranted!
