KARACHI, Sept 26: The Pakistan Navy has always been actively providing medical care, not only to the armed forces personnel, but also to a large number of civilians, Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Shahid Karimullah said while speaking at a seminar held in connection with golden jubilee celebrations of PN hospital PNS Shifa on Friday.

Appreciating the role of the hospital over the last 50 years, the naval chief said: “PNS Shifa has always been instrumental in extending medical care and treatment to the patients, both in times of peace and war,” adding “Besides fulfilling this important task, the PNS Shifa has been an institution of immense repute for postgraduate training of medical and nursing officers, besides cadets, in various disciplines.”

He lauded the efforts of PNS Shifa for providing free medical facilities by setting up medical camps for the people in remote areas of the country, specially living along the coastal belt.

Admiral Karimullah, promising a modern Cardiovascular Care Unit at the PNS Shifa in the near future, hoped that it would enhance hospital’s performance.

Earlier, in his welcome address, commandant, PNS Shifa, Surgeon Commodore Sefvan Majed Janjua, shed light on evolution of the hospital and the expertise and facilities available in the specialized fields.

The seminar was attended by a large number of senior armed forces officers, civilians, professors and doctors. — PPI
