KARACHI: An antiterrorism court sentenced on Saturday an extortionist to five years in prison.

Mohammad Aslam was found guilty of demanding protection money from Dr Mukhtiar Ahmed by putting him in fear of death near the Northern Bypass in February last year.

The judge of the ATC-VII, Akhlaq Hussain Larak, also imposed a fine of Rs15,000.

The court also sentenced the convict to another five years in jail for carrying an unlicensed weapon.

Meanwhile, another antiterrorism court sentenced two convicts to five years in prison in an extortion case.

Haseeb and Javed were found guilty of demanding protection money from a trader by extending threats to him in North Nazimabad in September last year.

The convicts were also sentenced to another five years in prison in two connected cases of illicit weapons.

The court also imposed a fine of Rs50,000 each in extortion and Rs20,000 each in illicit weapons cases.
