Proposals on kite-flying next month

Published September 26, 2003

LAHORE, Sept 25: The city district government will arrange a meeting of stakeholders early next month to formulate proposals to make kite-flying a safe sport. The proposals will be submitted to the provincial government for legislation.

More than 200 people, including the kite-flying association office-bearers, kite manufacturers and dealers, councillors, representatives of NGOs, police and Lesco officials, will be invited to the meeting to be chaired by District Nazim Mian Amer.

The CDG has convened the meeting after receiving over 200 proposals from the public for regulating the kite-flying. These proposals are being examined by the CDG’s community development department for presenting in the conference.

The conference is being convened three months after imposition of ban on kite-flying, production and trading in the city district by the Nazim after reports of accidents in which two dozen people were killed by slitting of their throat by the chemical or glasspowder-coated thread.
