KOHAT: Police registered cases against 18 owners and principals of private schools on Tuesday for consistently ignoring security warnings for compliance with the provincial safety action plan for educational institutions.

The action was taken in areas where the schools could become a soft target of terrorists. Raids were also conducted on 238 other schools and final warnings issued to them, police said.

Similarly, the police arrested 67 people under arms and drugs acts, rent and building ordinance, 14 Foreign Act and for violation of Section 144, and sent them to prison after registration of cases.

The owners and principals of educational institutions located in sensitive areas of cantonment, Junglekhel, KDA Town, Jarma, Shakardarra and Gumbat include Mohammad Abid, Abdul Hakeem, Nawabzada Khattak, Hamid Akbar, Attaullah, Mian Badshah, Abdul Hameed, Habibullah, Ghufranuddin, Mohammad Yousuf, Zahid Mohammad, Nisar Khan, Alam Zeb, Amanullah, Fazal Rehman and Mst Shabana.

Spokesman for the district police officer said that cases had been registered against them under the Sensitive and Vulnerable Places Act, which was passed by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly. However, no further action has been taken against them.

Meanwhile, the bomb disposal squad defused a rocket propelled grenade in the mountains of Mohammadzai.

HOUSING SCHEME: A local charity, Dr Aamir Wakeel Shaheed Foundation, has launched a five-marla ‘Mera Ghar’ scheme under which 1,920 housing units will be given to the widows and poor people in Kohat.

The foundation has asked deserving people to deposit Rs10,000 as refundable security in any branch of the designated bank by March 23 to participate in the scheme. The foundation has earmarked five per cent quota for media persons.

The scheme has also been launched in Hangu and Karak districts. It announced on Tuesday that those getting a monthly salary of less than Rs20,000 and not having own house were eligible to apply.
