LONDON: Olympique Lyon stayed top of Ligue 1 with a 5-1 win at Montpellier on Sunday but AS Roma’s hopes of catching Serie A leaders Juventus took a blow when they drew 0-0 at Chievo Verona.

In other late action on Sunday, Atletico Madrid’s La Liga title defence was dented after they conceded a late goal in a testy 1-1 draw at home with Valencia while Bayer Leverkusen won 3-0 at Paderborn to stay fourth in the Bundesliga.

Nabil Fekir was the chief tormentor as Lyon stayed one point ahead of Paris St Germain with the rising star scoring twice and winning a penalty that Alexandre Lacazette, who also grabbed a double, converted.

Former France midfielder Yoann Gourcuff was involved in the first three goals, but Fekir stole the limelight with the other goal coming from Corentin Tolisso as Lyon moved to 57 points from 28 games, with PSG in second after a 4-1 win over RC Lens on Saturday.

“Of course we can think about the title. We’re approaching the home straight now,” Lyon captain Maxime Gonalons said. “We have formidable opponents in PSG and Marseille so let’s keep our feet on the ground.”

Thinking about the Serie A title is beyond Roma, though, after their eighth draw in nine league matches left them eight points behind Juve, who have a game in hand.

Third-placed Napoli also failed to gain ground on Juve after squandering a two-goal lead to draw 2-2 at home to Inter Milan to remain four points behind Roma.

In Spain, Atletico remained in third spot with 55 points from 26 matches, seven points behind La Liga table-toppers Barcelona and one ahead of fourth-placed Valencia.

Valencia defender Shkodran Mustafi headed in a cross that goalkeeper Miguel Moya misjudged in the 78th. Jorge ‘Koke’ Resurreccion scored for Atletico in the 33rd.

Elsewhere, South Korea international Son Heung-min’s double kept Leverkusen in Bundesliga’s final Champions League qualifying spot on 39 points, two behind third-placed Borussia Moenchengladbach who drew 2-2 at Mainz 05 on Saturday.

Also on Saturday, Bayern Munich moved 11 points clear at the top after their 3-1 win at Hanover 96 as nearest challengers Wolfsburg lost 1-0 at Augsburg.
