RAWALPINDI: The commandant and deputy commandant of Police College Sihala were stopped from working on Sunday after the Inspector General of Police Punjab ordered an inquiry into allegations that the commandant was involved in immoral activities.

According to an official source, Commandant Amir Zulfiqar, deputy inspector general of police; and Deputy Commandant Mohammad Shoaib, senior superintendent of police, were stopped from carrying out their duties until the inquiry had completed.

Senior Superintendent of Police Syed Ali Mohsin, who has been posted as course commander at the college, was given the charge of Commandant College.

Inspector General of Police Punjab Mushtaq Ahmed Sukhera has appointed a three-member inquiry team headed by Additional Inspector General of Police Naseemuz Zaman to probe into the allegations.

The inquiry team has arrived in Rawalpindi to initiate the probe that will start on Monday.

On the other hand, the Special Branch and Intelligence Bureau have also conducted their separate inquiries after a report by the former inspector general of police appeared in media regarding involvement of the commandant in immoral activities.

According to the source both reports were sent to the provincial authorities.

When the acting commandant Punjab Police College, Sihala, Syed Ali Mohsin was contacted, he confirmed that till the inquiry was completed, he had been given the charge of acting commandant.

He, however, disputed the allegations that any of the senior officers of the college was involved in immoral activities.

When contacted, Inspector General of Police, Punjab, Mushtaq Ahmed Sukhera said a three-member inquiry committee had been constituted to probe into the allegations and asked to submit its report within 24 hours.

“The commandant and deputy commandant of Police College Sihala will join the inquiry and record their separate statements,” IGP Sukhera said.

He said whatever action was recommended by the inquiry team would be taken against those found guilty.
