KOHAT, Sept 23: A large number of students of the Kohat University of Science and Technology on Saturday surrounded NWFP Governor Syed Iftikhar Hussain Shah, registering their protest against the appointment of the university’s administrative staff.

They had beleaguered him during his visit to the university.

The university’s vice-chancellor and the controller of examination were present on the occasion.

Student also told the governor that regular classes were not being held, adding that the university library was deficient, there was a shortage of rooms in the hostel and there was no proper transport facility for students.

The university is located outside the city limits on the Bannu Road and students have to wait for hours to reach their homes.

The governor, after giving students a patient hearing, asked MPA Kalbe Hassan to solve the students’ problems as soon as possible.

Students embarrassed the controller of examination — who asked them to meet him in case they had any complaints in this regard — by telling the governor that they had met the controller several times but without any result, adding that the vice-chancellor had always refused to meet them.
