Two Pakistani men accused of raping domestic worker in South Africa

KARACHI: A South African domestic worker in Phoenix, Durban was allegedly raped last week by two men who are said to be Pakistani nationals, police said Wednesday.
An official of the South African Police Services (Saps), who requested anonymity, confirmed the Feb 26 incident in a telephonic conversation with Dawn and said that one of the perpetrators, identified as Ali Raza, 24, was arrested. The second man managed to escape.
The accused men are said to be running small businesses in Phoenix.
The Saps official quoted the victim as saying that she was contacted by her Pakistani employer to iron clothes for two of his friends.
After meeting with the woman, who officials say is unmarried and 35 years of age, the employer took her to his friends' house, the victim said.
The domestic worker alleged that while she was ironing clothes, one of the men flung her on the bed and raped her. After finishing the act, he called his friend in the room who also raped her.
The woman claimed that in the midst of the second assault, her employer came by to check on her, and upon discovering that she was being subjected to sexual assault, fought with his friends to have her released.
The victim registered a complaint at the Phoenix police station, police confirmed.
South Africa has one of the world's highest crime rates. It is often labelled the rape capital of the world. "The prevalence of rape, and particularly multiple perpetrator rape is unusually high," according to a 2012 report by the Institute for Security Studies (ISS) think tank.

This is one such instance. Read the UK papers. Thousands of young white girls have been raped by men of Pakistani origin in Rotherham in the UK. The rapes by these men has taken place over several years. When will Pakistani men learn to respect young women from other cultures?

Not only in West, Pakistanis are most searched in Gulf also. I lived in Kuwait and there in the morning flights from Delhi and Islamabad arrived almost at the same time. While Indians were left unchecked, each baggage of Pakistanis was opened for checking.

This is universal phenomena !!! No need to linked with country, religion, ethnicity, language etc. One thing is sure that in a orthodox societies, these kind of incidences are more common than open societies. That does not mean that in open society this type of incidences do not happen. Indian continent by and large is orthodox.

As a Pakistani who has been living in various countries for the last almost 30 years I feel the young men who travel overseas are brought up in an environment where they are told that they have a right to abuse women and they think they are superior. One is amazed at the comments that you hear about women. This has to be tackled.

Once I went to Finland, there I met 2 Pakistanis. I asked their country of origin. They told me that they are Indians. After they left, the receptionist told me that they are Pakistanis...I felt sad for their fear of exposing themselves.

Rape scars the victim for entire life time. No amount of therapy can blot out the memory. Irrespective of the country or the culture in which such acts take place, the law enforcement agencies and courts should keep that in mind and tailor the punishment accordingly. Death for the rapist is too easy a punishment.

subcontinent has a serious issue. Men are taught from the cradle they are perfect, they can do anything and no one will hold them responsible. This great teaching is done by both parents especially the mothers, once a son is born, they parade around with him like he is a medal. What message do you think he gets.
