ISLAMABAD: Information Minister Pervez Rashid on Tuesday accused Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan of horse-trading, saying he was to blame for the practice.

Earlier on Monday, Khan had accused the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) of being “deeply involved” in horse-trading along with the Jamiat Ulema Islam - Fazl (JUI-F).

The minister accused Khan for levelling allegations without any concrete proof and also blamed the PTI chairman for turning politics into a business venture, alleging that the practice was rampant in KP.

Rashid said senators were elected on the basis of numerical strength of different parties in the provincial assemblies and those getting more than their due share would be fully exposed.

The minister said while all other parties had given tickets for Senate elections to their workers and figures known for their political or other contribution in national life, PTI had given tickets to those with obscure backgrounds.

He dared Khan to reveal the name of a senator who obtained his ticket by paying Rs150 million and threatened to release the name himself if the PTI chief decided to remain silent on the issue.

Tensions continue to rise with the Senate elections looming as party leaders continue to hold meetings in Islamabad.

It provides yet more proof that the undergirding logic of public authority in Pakistan is legal and extra-legal coercion rather than legitimised consent.
