Two butchers arrested in Karachi for selling dog meat

KARACHI: Two butchers were arrested in Karachi's Ibrahim Hyderi area on Monday for selling dog meat to the public under the guise of goat meat.

Acting on a tip-off, police conducted a raid in Ibrahim Hyderi and arrested two men Imran and Shahab who were slaughtering dogs on a building's rooftop.

According to police, the two men were merely accomplices who had been duped into slaughtering dogs, while the main suspects had managed to flee.

Police also seized a gunny sack containing dog meat from the two butchers. Further investigation into the matter is underway.

Pakistan, which is a Muslim-majority country, prohibits consumption of dog meat. Dog meat is also regarded as unclean under Islamic dietary laws.

Such shameful act, disgusting...i wish these people are made to eat the same meat they served to their customers however, don't see that happening in the "land of pure" i'm 200% sure, they'll get out of jail in no time after bribing high ups...heart bleeds by seeing condition of motherland from far away...lost all hope in my people :(

Just purely pathetic that what our beautiful Country has become, shame on the rulers, they made it impossible for a normal man to earn a decent living there, that's we are seeing these kind of heinous crimes, where the authorities do nothing other than showing off some scripted encounters and nothing else. Sad and very shameful for the current government.

A side benefit of this raid would be solution to the rising prices of meat. People would stop buying meat for sometime, and the prices would come down. In the past, this bureaucratic 'solution' was manipulated many times, I am not sure if this true this time also. People, get on with their lives, eat vegetables, and stop eating sick and diseased animals' meat.

Pakistan should completely remove the word Islamic from their name. There is nothing Islamic in this country nor its citizen understand the meaning of it. I understand, no one is perfect and every society has crimes by why would some one do something like this. A customer is paying the goat meat price which pretty much standard through out the country then what is point of going out of the way to do something like this. This is something that has nothing to do with poverty, terrorism, no power, the 3 issues plaguing our country.

there are shops like meat one and khaas where they maintain good standards, clean environment and i am confident they sell good quality beef and mutton....people should start buying meat from credible sources such as these places. They are a bit expensive but atleast we can be assured that the meat is of good quality.

@junaid ,if they go to wholesale market to buy the goat meat they have to dole out the same amount which everybody pay but they do not want to do that they just round up the stray dogs from the street for free and made 100% slaughtering them on the roof where they live.

The need to eat meat is so overwhelming in Pakistan that we often fail to know the source of meat being consumed. It is a common practice to sell the flesh of sick and dead animals. I hope those dogs were freshly killed.

@junaid The roots are in poverty. The people who have no education, no money, and no self esteem what they are going to do if they have to take care of their families. The societies who fail to take care of their poor and week end up like this. Charities are good, but a short term measures. A very sincere efforts is needed from every one mainly the government to eradicate or minimize poverty. We have a huge population without proper education or skill level. May Allah help us

There is some mistake, they are exporter to china. China import all kind of meat for consummations. Eating any meat will be ridicules for Hindu, but it can consume by Muslims. Eating dog meat will be ridicules for Muslim, but it can consume by Chinese. Its just culture, learn how to deal with differences.
