ISLAMABAD, Sept 22: A campus of the Federal University for Arts, Science and Technology will be set up in the Capital soon, a statement issued here on Monday said.

The decision was taken at a two-day meeting of the senate of the university held here on Saturday and Sunday last. The university campus will be established at the Wapda House near Zero Point, the release said.

The meeting also formed the University Syndicate, the Academic Council and the Board of Advance Studies.

It also formed a consultative body headed by Prof Fateh Mohammad Malik which will comprise Dr S. Hassan, the representative of Higher Education Commission, Dr Altaf Hussain, Vice-Chancellor of the Allama Iqbal Open University and Mohsin Ehsan while Dr Hasan will work as honorary project director.

Similarly, the meeting also decided to release ads for the posts in the two campuses for Karachi which have been unnecessarily delayed. It was also decided that the temporary registrar, Mohammad Sajidain, the retired professor of economic, University of Karachi will no longer be working in his position and the post of permanent registrar, treasurer and controller of examinations will be filled through selection board after advertising the positions.

Meanwhile the Department of Translation and Compilation has been directed to prepare a comprehensive PC-I and get it approved from the government. In this connection the best publishing houses from all over the country, both from the public and private sectors, will be called in November.

An academic council will lend books to the needy students for studies. The positions in this department have been approved and now the interviews of the applicants will be held.

According to the plan, this department will try to emulate Jamia Usmania of Hyderabad Deccan in the standards.

A committee of the University senate members has been set up to review the rules and regulations of the affiliation committee to ensure highest standards while deciding the applications of institutions applying for affiliation with the Urdu University. The affiliation of a number of institutions has been approved on trial basis and to review the temporary affiliation of an institution of Karachi a committee comprising members of the senate has been formed.

It was also decided in the meeting that no particular teacher or administrator will be appointed as the joint secretary of the affiliation committees.

The meeting also decided that if any institution set up abroad, especially in the Gulf countries for the education of Pakistani students in collaboration with the Pakistan embassies, applies for affiliation with the Urdu University, a decision will be taken and after completing the formalities will start issuing them degrees of the university after holding examinations which are being unnecessarily delayed.

The meeting was also informally addressed by the Chairman of Higher Education Commission, Dr Attaur Rehman.

The meetings were attended by vice-chancellor Dr Pirzada Qasim, Aftab Ahmed Khan, Dr Farman Fatehpuri, Dr GHulam Ali Allana, Bano Qudsia, Prof Fateh Mohammad Malik, Dr S.M Hassan, Prof Mohsin Ehsan, Prof Dr Tariq Rehman, and Dr Syed Mohsin Ramna.
