PESHAWAR: PTI lawmaker from Chitral Bibi Fauzia has called for allocating 30 megawatt of electricity to the people of the district on completion of the hydropower schemes in the region.

Speaking at a news conference at the press club here on Saturday, she said that her party was committed to bringing Chitral at par with other developed districts of the province. She said that work on 55 developmental schemes, including eight hydropower projects, roads, irrigation, a university, higher secondary schools and healthcare centres, was underway in the district.

On the occasion, several activists led by Mukhtiar Ahmed Chitrali and Sikandar Azam Chitrali of PPP and Abdul Hameed of JI announced joining the PTI.

Ms Fauzia said that the provincial government had initiated work on the hydropower projects in Chitral to generate at least 250 megawatt of electricity. She said local consumption of electricity was 30 megawatt and demanded that the district be given the required electricity from the local power plants.

Regarding the closure of Lowari tunnel, she said the government was taking all possible steps to ease miseries of people. She mentioned the shortages of food commodities in the district, saying there was no restriction on smaller vehicles loaded with edible items to pass through the tunnel.

He said that Rs1.6 billion had been approved for establishment of small power stations in the district. He maintained that feasibility report on construction of a township had been prepared and the chief minister would inaugurate the project on the occasion of Jashn-i-Lasht festival.
