KARACHI, Sept 22: The Centralized Admission Committee on Monday released the placement list of male applicants for Humanities, first year classes, at colleges and higher secondary schools, which was the last in case of male students.
In all 2,472 male students have been placed for admissions to Humanities faculty at 27 colleges and 13 higher secondary schools, against an availability of 3,680 seats. Over 1,200 seats in the faculty are likely to remain unoccupied due to lack of interest of students this year.
Around 2,000 candidates had applied for admissions to Humanities, while another about 500 students with D or E grades, who could not be placed for admission to Pre-Engineering classes have also recommended for admission to the faculty.
Giving details about the admission lists, District Officer Education (Colleges), Prof Haroon Rashid, said that a total of 35,844 male students had been placed for admission to different educational institutions so far. As many as 14,976 have been placed for the Pre-Engineering classes, while 13,457 for Commerce, 4,239 for Pre-Medical, 2,472 for Humanities and 700 for Science General classes, he said.
He said that a total of 6,638 claim forms were received till Sept 20, while 2,166 had already been disposed of. Claim forms from male students placed in Humanities classes would be received at the designated colleges for next seven days.
In reply to a question, he said that majority of the candidates had requested for change of colleges on the basis of their residences being far away from the institutions, where they had got admissions, while no one had demanded transfer or reallocation of college on health grounds. He claimed that the cases were already being treated as per admission policy and there was no unrest among the applicants in regard to placement.
The Humanities group placement lists for male includes, two A-1 graders, eight A graders, 127 B grade, 455 C graders, 1,276 D graders and 604 E graders.
A maximum 252 candidates were placed at the Islamia Arts and Commerce College (morning), followed by the Jamia Millia Degree College (161), Jinnah Government College (152), Islamia College (evening) (131), City College (morning) (127), St Patrick’s College (evening) (126), National College (evening) (125) and others.
In the National College, the merit lists opened with 749 marks and closed at 406, while at the Liaquat College, students with marks ranging from 305 to 703 have been placed.
CLAIM FORMS: Over 6,638 students have so far submitted claim forms at six male and female claim centres in the city, after the announcement of placement lists under the Centralised Admission Policy (CAP) 2003.
EDO, Higher Education, Prof Raees Alvi, who is also the chairman of CAP 2003, on Monday informed PPI that cases of 50 per cent students, who submitted claim forms, were “genuine”, as in certain cases the names of students could not be included in placement lists, while others were placed in wrong faculty or college.
He said the number of claimants was ‘normal’ as compared to more than total 72,000 students.
The claims of rest of 50 per cent students were “unjustified” as they had not secured required marks to get admissions in colleges, groups or faculties they had applied for, the official maintained and added that claim forms were being processed expeditiously to grant admissions to eligible candidates.
He said after first placement list was released by the CAC, a total of 1,056 claim forms were received at six centres till Sept 12, and 1,039 cases were disposed of within seven days of submitting. By Sept 20, 2003, CAC received 6638 claim forms, of which 4,332 had been disposed of, he added.
As per break-up of claim forms received by the committee, 10 claim forms were received on Sept 3, 24 forms on Sept 4, 19 on Sept 5, 2 on Sept 6, 22 on Sept 8, 41 on Sept 9, 205 on Sept 10, 376 on Sept 11, 357 claim forms were received on Sept 12, while 713 claim forms were submitted at various centres on Sept 13, 1,312 on Sept 14, 1,080 forms on Sept 16, 856 on Sept 17, 464 on Sept 18, 467 forms on Sept 19, and 690 forms were received on Sept 20.
He blamed students as well as CAC officials for submission of claim forms on such a large scale.
Citing an example, he said the CAC officials wrongly processed bundles of placement forms of those students, who had applied for admissions in commerce or pre-engineering groups, and placed them in other groups and faculties and that’s why they could not be placed at colleges and higher secondary schools.
He further told that claim centres, established at Govt Islamia Science College, Govt Superior Science College and Govt College for Men Nazimabad, Govt College for Women Shahrah-e-Liaquat, Govt Khursheed Girls College and Govt Sir Syed Girls College, were working round the clock to facilitate students.—PPI
