Sugarcane growers

Published February 27, 2015

THE crushing season of sugarcane has almost ended but the Sindh government continues its apathy and injustice. It is protecting the interests of mill owners instead of poor farmers.

From day one, Sindh government is not serious in tackling the sugarcane issue on priority basis. It has negated its own notification of cane price of Rs182 per 40kg, violating the orders of the Sindh High Court.

It is a matter of life and death for poor cane growers because it is their only source of income.

Sugarcane growers have lodged their protest -- from blocking roads to knocking on the doors of justice but all in vain.

The federal government and civil society are silent spectators, while the media has no time for the issue. Where should we go?
