NEW YORK: THE US-based Sikhs for Justice (SFJ) said on Wednesday that summons issued by a Los Angeles Federal Court was served on Indian filmstar Amitab Bachchan on Feb 23 through his Hollywood manager.
The lawsuit against Bachchan by the group has been filed “for instigating the genocidal violence against the Sikh community by raising ‘blood for blood’ slogans in 1984”, a press release here said.
Bachchan’s manager in the Hollywood, David Unger, was served with a copy of the Federal Court summons and complaint by the plaintiff, the human rights group “Sikhs For Justice” . Mr Unger is a known talent agent and co-owner of “Three Six Zero Entertainment” group. He represents leading artists from US, UK, France, India, China, and Russia.
As per the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure, Bachchan has 21 days after the service of summons to respond to the charges of human rights violations. “If you failed to respond, judgment by default will be entered against you for relief demanded in the complaint,” warns the Federal Court summons. Bachchan has till March 17 to respond to the charges of human rights violations.

How does a US court have jurisdiction over an Indian citizen who doesn't even reside in US? This is just the arrogance of the US judicial system that would even entertain such a lawsuit. The judge should have thrown it out.

Just a publicity stunt to get money out of Amitabh. SFJ is a fraud. I was in Delhi in 1984 during the riots. Its true that many innocent Sikhs were killed. I saw it with my own eyes. SFJ is targeting the wrong person. The real culprits are the leaders of the Congress party who should be hanged. They are the people who started and led the riots. The killed many innocent Sikhs and they should be hanged.
Amitabh is just a film actor. Its easy to target him. If Sikhs For Justice have guts, they should file a case against the Gandhi family. They were the leaders of the Congress Party and still are. Why is the SFJ quiet on that front? Is it because Amitabh is the brand ambassador for Gujarat, which is a BJP state? Is it because Amitabh does not see eye to eye with the Gandhi family?

The American judge should be issued a summons by Indian court for contempt of Indian court as he has issued the summons without taking an oath to uphold Indian constitution, against a citizen of India for the act committed in India.

When are working in USA, even if you are not a US citizen the US Law applies to you and US courts have jurisdiction on you. AB might have escaped Indian courts for 30 years but now he is in for a whole different ball game.

Watch how Indians spin this. First they will call SFJ as fraud. Then they will deny Hindus killed any Sikhs during 1984 riots. They will quote heroic tales of how Hindus saved the Sikhs. Somewhere in there they will lay some of the blame on Indian Muslims.
