PESHAWAR, Sept 21: Peshawar and Chitral were jolted by a moderate earthquake but no damage or injuries were reported, a meteorological official said on Sunday.
The quake was felt at 7:00pm on Saturday in Peshawar and Chitral. Its epicentre was in the Hindukush mountains, 300km north of Peshawar along the Afghan border, the official said.
“It was a moderate earthquake and the intensity was 5.3 on the Richter scale,” director of the regional meteorological center in Peshawar, Muhammad Rafique Khan, told AFP. “It was felt in Chitral and Peshawar and some of the surrounding areas.”
Tremors are frequently felt in the northern areas here, where the Indian and Eurasian continental plates collide and seismic activity is high.
