PESHAWAR, Sept 21: The NWFP government released over Rs285m to the district governments to meet their non-development expenditure falling under the “non-salary head” for the second quarter of the current financial year, according to official sources.

Through an intimation to the banking authorities a sum of Rs285m has recently been placed in the provincial government’s account number four therefrom district governments draw funds against their expenditure on need basis.

The funds released recently, said the sources, were meant for the second quarter of the current financial year. An equally large amount had been utilized by the district governments in the first quarter to meet their non-developmental expenditure covered under the non-salary head.

In all, according to sources, the provincial government has allocated an amount of Rs1141.759m to be provided to the district governments under the non-salary component of the total resources to be provided to them in the 2003-04 financial year.

The funds put at the disposal of the district governments would help district governments to cover their expenditure requirements other than development expenses and salary head.

Out of the total amount of Rs285m transferred to the district governments account, a sum of Rs14.6m is for the Abbottabad district government, Rs10.5m for the Bannu district government, Rs6.6m for the Battagram district government, Rs8m for the Buner district government, Rs12m for the Charsadda district government, Rs7m for the Chitral district government, Rs10m for the Dir Lower district government, Rs9m for the Dir upper district government, Rs23m for the Dera Ismail Khan district government, Rs15.5m for the Harripur district government, Rs6m for the Hangu district government, Rs10m for the Karak district government, Rs12m for Kohat district government, Rs9m for the Lakki district government, Rs13m for the Malakand area government, Rs16m for the Mansehra district government, Rs11m for the Mardan district government, Rs22m for the Peshawar district government, Rs12.5m for the Swabi district government, Rs9m for the Shangla district government, Rs17m for the Swat district government and a sum of Rs7m has been released for the Tank district government.
