Holder: “I thought we really batted well, we took control in the middle overs and got up past 300. The start we had with the ball was excellent especially from Jerome Taylor. I was very excited with the team, we needed to make amends and we did that today.”
Misbah: “A tough day, especially after winning the toss I thought there was a little bit in the pitch but we couldn’t exploit that. Their big partnership took it away from us and we gave away too many runs at the end. They really cashed in and all credit to them. A Lack of confidence made it difficult for us with the bat, they bowled really well and we couldn’t get through the new ball. We have a long break now so we will pick ourselves up and get back to work.”

Chasing 311 to win, Pakistan never recovered from slumping to 1-4, the worst start in one-day international history, and were all out for 160 in the 39th over with Umar Akmal top-scoring on 59. The West Indies made 310 for six after being sent into bat with Denesh Ramdin making 51. They have one win in two games, while Pakistan have lost both of their opening two matches.

After Luden’s reported resignation from the post of fielding coach, it is apparent from Pakistan’s horror show today that the development had some weight to it. Luden had resigned but convinced to continue by the management over what the South African called a lack of professionalism from players like Afridi, Shehzad and Umar Akmal.

Anything came happen with West Indies, especially with the bat if the likes of Chris Gayle get going, but you worry about their bowling because there’s not much consistency. Likewise for Pakistan, whose key player is the 40-year-old Misbah. Both sides are unpredictable but both sides are playing better than England.”

“I love to take challenges, no matter who’s in front of me,” Riaz told Ramiz Raja. Riaz says bowlers get good value for their short-pitched deliveries Down Under.
Meanwhile, tropical Cyclone Marcia looks certain to wash away Australia’s World Cup clash against Bangladesh in Brisbane on Saturday. “World Cup organisers are working closely with authorities in Queensland regarding the match between Australia and Bangladesh given the extreme weather situation and the forecasts for ongoing rain in Brisbane,” said an International Cricket Council statement.
