Mafia boss ordered to leave UK

LONDON: A judge has ordered a convicted Mafia boss to return to Italy from Britain after losing his battle against extradition.

Domenico Rancadore, 65, had lived quietly in London under a different name for almost 20 years until he was arrested in a European warrant in August.

Italian officials said he had been a chief of the feared Sicilian Mafia and he was convicted in his absence for criminal associations between 1987 and 1995.

Magistrate Howard Riddle said on Friday that Rancadore must return to his native country to serve a seven-year sentence for association with the Mafia. The court said that Rancadore has a week to appeal against the decision, and after that he would be removed from Britain within 10 days.
