SANGHAR: The Pakistan Fisherfolk Forum (PFF) organised a rally in the town and led a sit-in outside the local press club on Thursday against the alleged nexus between the Sinjhoro police and a local feudal lord in ‘unleashing excesses on peasants’.

The PFF also announced its plan to hold a sit-in outside the Sindh Assembly building on March 2 for action against them.

A large number of peasants took part in the rally led by PFF chairman Mohammed Ali Shah.

Speaking to the protesters, Mr Shah said that it was the responsibility of police to protect people from excesses but the SHO and personnel of the Sinjhoro police station were taking no action against the feudal lord in the case of peasant Ghulam Ali Leghari and his family.

Mr Leghari told the media that his employer not only forcibly evicted him and his family from the land they were working on as tenant but also got his house torched. He said the feudal lord’s men earlier attacked him twice and were continuously harassing the family. He said he approached the police every time but they did nothing on his complaints.

The PFF chief demanded suspension of the SHO and an inquiry into the matter. If the peasant family was not provided justice, a hunger strike would be held in front of the Hyderabad press club and a sit-in outside the Sindh Assembly building on March 2, he added.
