KARACHI: Special children entertained

Published September 21, 2003

KARACHI, Sept 20: Speakers at a function on Saturday urged the government to provide better education and training facilities to the handicapped children, so that they could play their due role for the betterment of the society.

Pointing out that the government alone could not handle this uphill task, the speakers also urged the philanthropists to come forward so that the life quality of the special children could be improved.

The event was organized by the Pakistan Hotels Association, and was participated by the Special Students of Pak Rehabilitation Education Welfare Association (PREWA).

They said that such events were organized so that the special children, who otherwise did not have opportunities to visit such places, could also visit such places and have fun.

They said that more interaction between the special and the normal children would also help bridge the communication gap between them.

They said that such functions highlight the issues being faced by the special children and urge the decision makers to do something to improve the situation.

They said that the goal of the PREWA, which had been working for over a couple of decades, was to rehabilitate the special children and enable them to get admission in normal schools.

They said that the organizations, working for the handicapped children, were doing a noble job and that the philanthropists should come forward to provide assistance to these organizations, so that they could further expand their services and assist more children.

They said that more such programmes would be organized for the special children.

The Pakistan Hotel Association chief and patron of PREWA, Syed Arshad Ali, Dr Humaira Yaqoob of PREWA, Muzzaffar Baweja and others also spoke on the occasion.

Earlier, the children enjoyed the music and songs presented by the musicians and danced to the popular tunes for over a couple of hours at the function.
