KARACHI: Dr Sakhi Qabool Mohammad Farooqi, the Sajjada Nashin of the shrine of Sufi saint-poet Sachal Sarmast, died here on Sunday after a long illness.

He was born on July 19, 1962 in Daraza, a sleepy village near Ranipur in Khairpur district which houses the shrine of Sachal Sarmast.

He did his M.A (Political Science) from Shah Abdul Latif University, LL.B. (Law College, Khairpur), Diploma in Contemporary Practices & Management (Edinboro University of Pennsylvania).

He attended many conferences about Sufism and religious harmony in London, New York, Mumbai and other cities.

He was author of four books including one based on his PhD thesis. He nominated his son, Khwaja Abdul Haq, as the next Sajjada Nashin of the Sachal Sarmast shrine.
