MARDAN: Promotion of research in the field of social sciences could play a major role in the social and economic development of the country and contribute to peace and harmony.

This was highlighted during a meeting of vice-chancellors and representatives of over 20 higher education institutions of the country, which was held at Abdul Wali Khan University, Mardan, on Saturday. The meeting was organised by the Inter-University Consortium for Promotion of Social Sciences Pakistan and chaired by its chairman Dr Nasser Ali Khan.

Vice-chancellors of the universities and academicians said that Pakistan’s social and economic crisis could be resolved through the promotion of social sciences.

Sharing the objectives of the consortium, Dr Nasser said that the consortium was working with the national and international organisations, and a number of MoUs had been signed with several countries and leading organisations.

The participants said that under Dr Nasser the consortium as an autonomous body would continue its contribution towards strengthening social sciences at the regional and national level in close coordination with its partner organisations. They said that the consortium’s associate membership and partnership would be expanded, while international social sciences conference would be organised in coming June.
