KARACHI, Sept 19: Sindh government will launch new schemes for promotion of Information Technology, besides completion of the on-going schemes in the province.
Speaking at a seminar on Information Technology, Sindh Minister for IT, Yaqoob Ilyas, said that Rs42.50 million had been allocated for new schemes, while Rs41.20 million had been allocated for the on-going schemes in the IT sector.
The minister said the new schemes included establishment of an IT varsity in the city, besides setting up of portal and websites for Sindh government and introduction of IT in district administration in Sindh.
He said the funds would also be used for IT training of students and jobless graduates, establishment of rural community internet centres, and establishment of an IT Park in Larkana.
Besides these projects, he said, the on-going schemes, to get share in the allocation, included schemes to set up IT centres, E-Government pilot project for Sindh Finance Department, IT training for Sindh government employees and setting up of IT infrastructure for the city government, Karachi.
Earlier, the seminar organizer, Rehmatullah Khan, welcomed the minister.
SECRETARY: Meanwhile, Sindh Secretary for Information Technology, Yahya Waliullah, on Friday said Pakistan would start assembling of computers and servers.
He said there had been a tremendous progress in human resource development in the country and more than 100 universities were awarding graduate and post-graduate degrees in information technology.
Mr Waliullah pointed out that IT was being used in every field and was contributing towards economic development of the country.
He stated that there were many companies competing in the local and regional markets and that their products were showing substantial improvements.
He maintained that on the software side although there was a setback in the wake of 9/11 events but the market was now picking up.
He said the Pakistani youth was intelligent and talented and their skills would be of great benefit to make rapid headway in IT.—APP
