NEW DELHI, Sept 18: The government informed the Supreme Court on Thursday that it had passed release orders of eight Pakistani prisoners with five others, providing them consular access.

Submitting before a bench of the apex court, comprising Justice Ruma Pal and Justice P.V. Reddi, Attorney General Soli Sorabjee said the government had passed the order in respect of the eight prisoners and fixed the time limit for their deportation as September 30.

While in regard to other five Pakistani prisoners, he said they have been provided with consular facilities for the determination of their national identities.

The Attorney General further informed the court that two other Pakistani prisoners who had approached the Supreme Court could not be relieved as they were facing trial, said a news report.

Appreciating the efforts of the Attorney General in the case, the court adjourned the hearing for six months.—APP
