Sindh govt announces anti-terrorism force for province

KARACHI: A meeting of the Sindh apex committee on Monday decided to constitute an anti-terrorism force in Sindh.

The meeting was held at Chief Minister House Sindh and was chaired by Governor Sindh Dr Ishratul Ibad Khan.

It was decided that the force will be trained by personnel from the armed forces at Razzaqabad Training Academy.

It was also decided that 57 cases will be referred to the federal government for trial by military courts and the decision in this regard would be implemented within 10 days' time.

The governor decided that the province of Sindh will be divided into three zones namely Karachi Zone, Hyderabad Zone and Sukkur Zone to ensure implementation of the National Action Plan (NAP) at the provincial level.

Director General Rangers Major Bilal Akbar would head the Karachi zone. Hyderabad Zone, which would also include Mirpurkhas and Nawabshah, would be headed by General Officer Commanding (GOC). The third zone — Sukkur Zone — would be headed by GOC Panu Aqil and would also include Larkana.

DG Rangers was quoted as saying that the targeted operation in Karachi was progressing successfully and if need be, it would also be started in Sindh.

Earlier in Jan, the Sindh apex committee was formulated for implementing the NAP to deal with terrorism.

too late, Punjab first in every way....way to go SS....I think it is proved that we should handover the country over to dictator SS....he has proved that it is only through DANDA that things work in Pakistan, so, why were we against dictators of the past. Oh! the politicians were not making enough money due to the presence of dictators....

@ishrat salim: Building one more elite force does not help much and its much easier than reforming existing security forces i.e. police & IB. Anti- terror forces are meant to tackle the end product i.e. terrorist attacks. By then its usually too late. Much more important to change the mindset and system that produce extremists and terrorists. As far as SS is concerned, everyone knows how corrupt he is and his links to sectarian outfits are well established (read the article in today's Dawn about Lej lawmaker of N league). The butcher of Model towen needs a danda himself.

Why do people have such high hope of army and danda rule.Its not a long-term solution to our condition. Instead they should support political reforms to get rid of the current crop of politicians and breed a new generation of competent people who are faithful to the country. This ideology of Army is the solution to everything needs to stop.

provided this force does not contain cronies of Zardari and Altaf bhai. Rest is all fine. in fact it would be better if the same may be constituted from the existing police force by picking the best personal depending on the physical fitness. it will exempt the sindh government from additional burden on its exchequer.

Excellent move to incorporate anti-terrorism foce in Sindh. For this force to be effective,. please ensure its autonomoius, indepent status with defind responsibilities. This force must be free of political 'influences'. Force under its mandate should be able to catch all criminals and bhatta khores, no exceptions as to which party that criminal belongs to. Lets see if what would come as 'outcome' of this initiative. So far all you see is ruining of peoples life and businesses, too many terrorists, criminals, bhatta khores, black mailers threatening to shutter down and phayya jam cities, causing huge losses to pakistani economy. Please catch all these crimiinals and foreign agents and refer them to military courts for punishment.

How is this anti terrorism force going to be different from the other forces already operating as they are going to be trained by the same trainers.What guarantee is there that this force will bring in better results.The DG rangers says that the targeted operation is progressing well then what is the need for this new force.The truth is that the operation is making no headway and they just do not know what to do.
