NEW DELHI: India’s ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) may not have got its promised mandate to repeal Jammu and Kashmir’s special status by abrogating Article 370 of the country’s constitution but it has found a landmark toehold for the first time in the region’s history by becoming a member of its ruling coalition, local reports said on Friday.
According to The Indian Express, more than a month after the poll results were declared, the BJP and People’s Democratic Party (PDP) have finalised a power-sharing pact and are set to form the next government in the region. According to sources quoted by the paper, PDP patron Mufti Mohammad Sayeed is set to take oath as chief minister in mid-February.
The deputy chief minister will be from the BJP, with party leader Nirmal Singh being the front-runner for the post.
“We have almost reached a consensus to form the next government with the PDP,” BJP national executive council member and MLA from Billawar, Nirmal Singh, told the newspaper.
“J&K will soon have a stable government headed by a mature politician and a good cabinet team,” he said.
PDP chief spokesman Nayeem Akhtar also confirmed that a PDP-BJP government would be formed by mid-February, the report said. BJP sources said People’s Conference chairman Sajjad Lone, whose party has two seats in the assembly, would be included in the cabinet in the BJP quota.

I am always hoping that one day both Pakistan and India can come together in a lose federation. If Modi can turn the economy round and continue to lead the country after the next election, it is just possible public opinion on both side of the border may favour such a development. But there is is a big IF.

You can get elected from any constituency even if you get total 10% of vote; its all depend upon number of candidates are contesting against you.
Have you heard anywhere that a candidate or party got 100% of votes??; not possible in any democracy.
Modi might have got 30% of total votes but right now he is PM of 100% Indians.

Modi (or any leader) was not discarded by other , it simply means that other leaders too have positive things and people have likes for them too, totally fair and obvious.

You need to get a 10 minute lesson in democracy. Only dictators win 100% vote. Otherwise, whoever wins the most votes get elected to represent.
In other words, a team wins if it wins by 10 runs or 100. BJP won by a serious majority equivalent of 8 wicket win.

In democracy the leader of majority is leader of the country because of sense of participation and inclusion in voting process. The executive works on the principle of collective responsibility because the commissions and other bodies have fair representation of opposition party and society in general. Therefore Modi is our PM though his party has won vote of 1/3 rd of the population. 2/3rd of population who did not vote for BJP are not necessarily against BJP because they have representatives on all forums and indirect representation in Upper House. Thanks for the patience of going through it.

NDA won 40% vote which is HUGE in a multiparty first past the goal post system. The system does not count for how many others BJP wold have been a second choice.

People of Jammu voting for BJP are communal and not those in the valley who only vote for Muslims? By the way AP has had a Chrisian CM, and Maharashtra a Muslim CM despite both being Hindu maority states.

It is true that BJP got 31% votes but the alliance it led NDA got 40% votes. However India is a multiparty democracy and typically any seat is contested by 4-5 stron candidates. Hence 40% votes shows a very strong performance.

Statistically that is equated to the whole population. Modi and BJP were elected with huge margin against a ruling party. There is no doubt about who India wanted to elect.
