PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Sardar Mahtab Ahmad Khan has said that the government is highly conscious of the dire need of providing quality education to the young generation, especially in the Federally Administered Tribal Areas, and would welcome support from the Turkish friends in this regard.

He was addressing a select gathering of elders and educationists, including a 28-member delegation of senior officials from the Republic of Turkey, after formally inaugurating on Friday a newly-constructed block of Khubaib School and College – an institution working under the aegis of Khubaib Foundation being run by philanthropists of Turkey in Haripur district.

“In this region, the Fata in particular, the students are the worst sufferers and let us become partners to help them in getting opportunities of learning,” the governor asked the founders and management of the Khubaib School and College, according to a handout issued here.

The institution was established to cater to both educational and boarding/lodging needs of the deserving children, who suffered because of the 2005 earthquake. Former foreign minister Gohar Ayub Khan also spoke on the occasion while Mr Saeed, leader of the Turkish delegates, highlighted the achievements of the institution as well as the Khubaib Foundation. PML-N leader Pir Sabir Shah was also present on this occasion.

Referring to the spirit of affection and brotherhood of the Turkish delegates especially with reference to the tragic incident of terrorist attack on the Army Public School, the governor said that the government was fully committed to rooting out terrorism and restoring peace and stability. “Even today, 1.7 million people from Fata are displaced and we have to rehabilitate them,” he said.
