MQM walks out of Sindh Assembly during CM's address

KARACHI: Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) representatives on Tuesday staged a walkout after shouting slogans during Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah's address in the Sindh Assembly.

MQM representative Khwaja Izharul Hassan asked the speaker about investigations into extrajudicial killings of party workers and the role of the provincial government.

He directly addressed Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah, saying: "MQM workers waited with dead bodies for 10 hours outside the CM house, yet no individual from the provincial government gave a statement regarding taking notice of the killings of MQM workers."

The chief minister opened his speech by mentioning the Protection of Pakistan Ordinance and laws that were created to give Rangers the power to carry out operations in Karachi.

"When they [MQM] were with us, there were killings then as well, why weren't there protests against the killings then?" asked the chief minister while addressing the house.

He termed the MQM's protest at the CM House an "attack on the CM house" rather than a grievance.

Shah's comments infuriated MQM representatives in the assembly, who shouted slogans and walked out of the building.

Disagreements and not enmity are part of politics: Sharjeel Inam Memon

Sindh Information Minister Sharjeel Memon, while talking to media representatives, expressed his disappointment regarding the ruckus during today's Sindh Assembly session.

He added that the chief minister was responding to all queries however he was not given a chance to finish his address and was interrupted.

"When you accuse someone, you must have the patience to hear their response as well," said the provincial information minister.

Memon further said that issues must not be diverted, adding that the Sindh government is open to holding talks with all parties. He mentioned that the provincial government was open to discussions with MQM but they did not entertain the idea.

Give MQM the power in Sindh government they deserve. Why in the world PPP has their people holding power in Karachi and Hyderabad. MQM literally clean sweep the elections in both cities. MQM is the true representative of Karachi and Hyderabad. Give them power so we have the cities as they were under Mustafa Kamal and MQM.

There should be full attendence, and question period after CM speech. There should be serious discussion on issues in the province. Such as how to solve Thar area food shortage, babies medicine, death problem, how to eliminate terrorism, target killers, bhatta khores and bund bori mar criminals. Tantrums does not indicate political maturity or statesmenship. May Almighty have mercy on Pakistan.

What els would one expect from Qaim Ali Shah whom Zardari and Bhuttos have in place because he is totally incompetent so they can actually govern instead and he is a long term a laibility for the Sindhi people, as no progress and development will ever take place. But the immigrants from India namely Biharis etc must know that the Sindhi people have given and shared their land with them and should be thankful for that.

@Key Points My Dear Friend, no society can ensure its existence unless built solely on the principles of Justice and equality. Being lip tight on injustices and atrocities by the biased and discriminatory loot mafia presently occupied the Sindh Govt, is tantamount to be equally involved in the injustice. We must all stand up and unite against inept and corrupt usurpers of Sindh and throw them out of Sindh Assemble and CM House. Thye have made all the public sector department a "Jiyala House" and looted almost all the money given to them from federation. There is no infrastructure development in any part of province rest alone Karachi. Karachi which contributes 97% of Provincial and Federal revenues, receive merely 2% and that was being looted by these corrupt and inhuman entities. We must unite and stand up against these atrocities and who ever come our way should be thrown out.

Makes no sense for everyone to change electoral breakdown and keep trying to break MQMs mandate. They have thug tactics and blackmail the government but if everyone keeps ignoring their mandate and calling a cm house visit an attack, then I can see why they have to resort to these tactics. They've shown that they have consistent power and support. Everyone knows that they control Karachi. Everyone also knows that karachis taxes and routes are extremely essential for Pakistan yet each time electricity and gas and every development resource is diverted to Punjab or interior Sindh. Don't push a party so much that you regret it later. We already did this with east pakistan but Pakistanis will never learn

MQM .... one of the few God gifted party who are never out of action... be it in streets, or in assembly they are active / ever alert and profoundly decimating writ of the govt.... the good part is as soon as you spoon fed them with some seats they will stop bickering. best part is, after Altaf party will vanish they way this leader is absconding since 1992.... self exile. good for us.

MQM should not limit itself to issues of Karachi, but should similar voice over other problems of Sindh as a whole including the extra-judicial killing of Sindhi Nationalists. PPP has never and will never ever show any sympathy to the nationalists, who are brutally killed and murdered by unknown assailants, who are now using the same tactics against MQM workers. It is better that MQM should rise beyond the issues of Karachi and own and associate itself with other problems of Sindh, since they are an integral part of Sindhi Society.

@Sajjad Khan No sense you try to divide Pakistani people based on ethenic background. Now they are all Pakistanis. Whether they fought for creation of Pakistan from outside of sindh or from within sindh. They were part of struggle together & they are both patriotic citizens of Pakistan. If they keep fighting in sindh assemly thats different matter altogether. East Pakistan has been lost because of ethenity differences. No one should start trouble based on ethenicity of sindhi, baluchi, punjabi, pushto or urdu speaking. Its better to promote unity all are proud citizens of Pakistan. Also do not snub or shun any politicians who attempts to use ethenic diversity to gain political milage in self interest. Any political leaders using ethenic cards can only be a foreigh agent, but not a patriotic Pakistani.

I'm not a PPP spokes person, but MQM who calls themselves a common man party who is against the vadera system, why are they sitting in Sindh assembly if they have so many issues with PPP. This is exactly what they did the last time around. They stayed with PPP for alomost 5 years and right before the elections they decided to part ways. Who are they kidding with.

Its best to promote unity among all Pakistanis. Whether sindhi, punjabi, pushto, baluchi or urdu speaking, they are all proud citizens of Pakistan. Please snub, shun and discard those politicians who try to play ethenic cards in self interest. A true patriotic leader would always try to unite all ethenic groups and create hamoney among all. But any politician who attempts to divide pakistani nation based ethenicity, must be a foreign agent trying to destabilize Pakistan. Please do not vote for those self serving politicians who are trying play ethenic cards and dividing pakistani citizens based on ethenic background. May Almighty protect Pakistan from selfish, self serving politicians.

In addition to that MQM almost clean sweep Fedral and Provencial elections in both the cities. AND under Musharaf and MQM's administration Karachi and Hyderabad developed a lot. No one can deny that, both were simply better cities then they are now.
