GUJRAT: To pay tribute to a victim student of the Peshawar school attack, a new block is being constructed at a high school in his native town of Chakri Rajgan village, Jhelum district for Rs5.066 million.

The foundation stone of the Mehar Ali Shaheed Block at the Government High School for Boys, Chakri Rajgan, was unveiled by Jhelum District Coordination Officer (DCO) Zulfiqar Ahmed and Jhelum Cantonment General Officer Commanding (GOC) Major General Sher Afgan.

The Jhelum district government made the announcement for the new block on the instructions of Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif to pay tribute to Mehar Ali, one of the victims of the Peshawar attack. Major General Sher Afgan also donated Rs100,000.

Naib Subedar Kausar Aijaz, the father of Mehar Ali, had appealed to chief minister at his son’s funeral to build a new block at the school in the memory of his son. Aijaz, the headmaster, teachers and students of the school were also present on the occasion.

Speaking at the ceremony, DCO Ahmed said terrorism and extremism could only be eliminated by spreading education. He said the Peshawar tragedy had united the whole nation and now every institution of the state was fighting against terrorism with the support of the masses.

GOC Major General Sher Afgan said the whole nation was united against terrorism and setting up a new block was the best way to pay homage to Mehar Ali, “who embraced martyrdom in the terrorist attack on the Army Public School, Peshawar”.
