Robbers kill teacher

LAHORE, Sept 17: Robbers shot dead a schoolteacher, injured a woman and made off with cash, valuables and vehicles in different parts of the city on Wednesday.

The schoolteacher was killed in Ghalib Colony, Millat Park.

Ms Firdaus’s family told police she was on her way home after shopping when two gunmen intercepted her. They attempted to snatch her gold ornaments and opened fire when she put up resistance. A bullet hit her in the head. She was rushed to hospital where she died.

In another incident, the people injured and caught a woman robber after her gang injured a woman in Shahdara.

Two women and a man entered the house of Mrs Iftikhar and whipped out pistols. The family members raised an alarm and neighbours rushed to their rescue. The miscreants hit Mrs Iftikhar with pistol butts.

The intruders, when tried to escape, were intercepted and beaten up by the people. They sustained injuries. However, two of them fled from the scene, while the third one, later identified as Jamila, was caught. She was taken to hospital.

The two injured robbers, in the meantime, held a rickshaw driver at gunpoint and escaped. They got off the rickshaw on Ravi Road and rode away on a motorcycle they had snatched.

Two gunmen stormed into an auto-parts shop of Muzaffar Ali on Circular Road and made off with cash, a TV set and two cell phones worth Rs80,000.

Three robbers burst into an auto-parts shop in Garhi Shahu and held up its owner Tariq Ali. They collected Rs25,000 in cash and a cell phone and escaped.

ARRESTED: Police claimed on Wednesday having arrested four members of a gang of robbers, including a former police constable.

Illicit weapons and two stolen wagons are said to have so far been seized on their identification.

The arrested robbers are Amin alias Pappu, Shahzad, Khalid Nawaz and Ghulam Mustafa.

Mustafa had been a police constable and terminated from service on corruption charges.

ACCIDENT: Three people were killed in accidents in various parts of the city on Wednesday.

Azra, 55, was on her way home when a wagon hit her in Mughalpura. She died on way to hospital.

Wasim, 28, sustained injuries when a bus hit him in Burki. He was rushed to hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. Shah Mohammed, 45, was run over by a rashly driven tractor-trolley on Bund Road in Shafiqabad.
