KHAR: Unknown gunmen shot dead a Levies man near Sarkai post in Mamond tehsil of Bajaur Agency here on Wednesday evening.

Sources said that unknown miscreants opened fire on Sepoy Khaliq Khan of Bajaur Levies while he was taking food from his home to his other colleagues on duty at the Sarkai security post along the Afghan border. He died on the spot. No group has claimed responsibility for the attack.

After the killing, the security forces and Levies personnel cordoned off the area and started search operation. However, there were no reports of any arrests till filing of this report.

Family members of the deceased said that they had no enmity with anybody and that the motive behind the attack was yet to be ascertained.

However, official sources said that militants could be behind the attack as the security forces, including the Levies, had been jointly conducting search operation and making raids on militant hideouts for the last few days in Banda area of Salarzai tehsil.
