ISLAMABAD: A representative of foreign medical graduates here on Tuesday called upon the government to resolve their registration issue.

Speaking at a press conference at the National Press Club, Dr Salman Rana, the president of the Foreign Graduate Association Pakistan (FGAP), said the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) was not ready to register them as medical practitioners until they passed the National Examination Board (NEB) test. He said they did graduation from different universities of China which were already registered with the PMDC.

“As the universities are registered with the PMDC, we should be registered as medical practitioners without participating in the NEB test. But the PMDC has refused to register us until we pass the exam,” he said

NEB has been made mandatory for doctors who get education in countries where the medium of education is not English to take the test.

Dr Tahir Naveed, the general secretary FGAP, said the parliament had passed a bill in 2012 under which foreign graduates had to pass the NEB test.

But it should not be applied to students who got admission to foreign universities before 2012, he added.
