RAWALPINDI: The Punjab government has allocated Rs15 billion for expansion of farm-to-market roads in the province.
It has asked the district administrations to submit lists of roads in their respective areas within three days.
Under the project, the 10 feet wide roads will be expanded to 12 feet and all the roads will be re-carpeted.
The project will start in February 2015 and continue till the end of next fiscal year.
The project was aimed at making farmers’ access to the markets of cities and towns easier and earn a good profit.
“The government has asked the administrations of all 36 districts of the province including four districts of Rawalpindi division to submit lists of the roads and the estimated cost their expansion and re-carpeting will bear,” Commissioner Zahid Saeed told Dawn.
He said the four districts of Rawalpindi Division including Rawalpindi, Attock, Jhelum and Chakwal would submit the details of the roads within two days.
“In the first phase from February to June 2015, the existing roads will be expanded and in next fiscal year, some new roads will also be constructed,” he said.
