PESHAWAR: Umma Welfare Trust, a charity organisation, will establish an engineering university in Peshawar for the orphans and poor children who got education till intermediate in the schools and colleges set up by the charity.

This was announced by the charity’s chairman Maulana Mohammad Idrees while talking to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Pervez Khattak here on Sunday.

Mr Idrees informed the chief minister that Rs300 million had been initially allocated for the proposed university, where 750 orphans and poor students of KP and Fata would get free education, according to a handout.

On the occasion, the chief minister said that welfare organisations were a blessing for society as volunteers selflessly served the humanity. He said that NGOs like Ummah Welfare Trust were need of the hour in providing succor to the destitute.

Mr Khattak said that it was essential for people to keep vigil on suspicious activities and miscreants to wipe out the menace of terrorism from Pakistan.

Mr Khattak while appreciating the welfare programme of the charity organisation said that he was also impressed of the role of Ummah Children Academy in Nowshera where orphan students were being provided free education and accommodation. He also lauded its generous assistance for IDPs of North Waziristan Agency.
