PESHAWAR, Sept 15: The Peshawar High Court on Monday disposed of an application of an MPA, Alamazeb Umerzai, filed for cancellation of bails of a former provincial minister, Bashir Umerzai, and five of his relatives in a murder case.

A single, bench comprising Justice Shahjehan Khan Yousafzai, directed the applicant to approach the district and sessions judge, Charsadda, in this regard.

The bench observed that the applicant had raised the point that the six accused had been misusing the concession, adding that the district and sessions judge concerned was empowered to recall their bail.

Alamzeb Umerzai of the PPP-S and Bashir Umerzai of the ANP belong to the Umerzai area of Charsadda are tangled in a blood feud for the past many years.

On Sept 8, the high court had dismissed bail petitions of two sons and three other relatives of Bashir Umerzai in another murder case. Bashir Umerzai has been absconding in that case.

In the case, a friend of Alamzeb Umerzai, Hameedullah Khan, was killed and another person was injured in a murder attempt on Alamzeb on Aug 4, 2002.

The six accused — Bashir Umerzai, his sons Mansoor and Shakeel, and three other relatives, Dr Younas, Nasir Kamal, and Riaz Khan — had been granted bail by the district and sessions judge in Charsadda last year.

Due to the case’s sensitivity, the situation remained tense in the high court throughout the day.
