Blasphemy accused killed after release

TAXILA: A blasphemy accused freed a few days ago was shot dead here on Wednesday.
Police said it appeared to be a case of target killing.
The man, identified as 52-year-old Aabid Mehmood alias Aabid Kazzab, owned a hotel and lived in Kamra village. He reportedly had claimed ‘prophethood’ in October 2011 and a case was registered against him under Section 295-C of CrPC on a complaint lodged by his son-in-law Sadaqat Ali.

Aabid was sent to jail after his mental condition had been examined by a board of doctors at the Rawalpindi District Headquarters Hospital. He was released from Adiyala jail after about two years because of his mental and physical condition.
On Tuesday, some masked men took him from his house in Ahatta area and his bullet-riddled body was found on Wednesday in deserted area near Usman Khattar Railway Station. He had been shot in the chest and head from a close range.
Police shifted the body to the Tehsil Headquarters Hospital in Taxila for autopsy.
Investigation officer Ayub told journalists that since Aabid had been jailed in a blasphemy case, police were investigating the murder from different angles, including target killing and personal dispute. He said that on a complaint of Ghulam Ibrar, a brother of the deceased, the scope of investigation had been widened.
When Aabid’s body was brought to the village, a group of enraged people gathered there and did not allow members of his family and other relatives to bury it in the local graveyard. He was later buried in the courtyard of his house.

very sad indeed! The guy had mental issues and was not in his rationale state of mind. Furthermore, he was acquitted by the court after serving 2x years in Jail. The deplorable situation of safety and security in our country Pakistan is alarming and the extremism of the mindset will take all of us back to stone age and perpetual chaos.....

The last paragraph in this article is what makes me most ashamed. Not just Muslims but all civilized humans need to be ashamed that a village full of people cannot find it in their heart to let a mentally ill victim of a brutal murder be buried. No matter what his sins, why deny him that? Who among the villagers was totally free of sin?

Oh what a tragedy what a disgrace what a shame. Some people are ready to murder anybody who opens his or her mouth. O.K. the guy claimed prophethood, so what? How did that affect anybody's belief or life. He should have been left alone. He was entitled to life and living. The poor guy, the poor soul.

Sounds like a case of mental illness. If this man was living anywhere else in the world, the government would be providing healthcare. But here in Pakistan, he gets accused by his own son-in-law.
His son-in-law should be under police investigation. It is possible this elaborate scheme was meant to inherit the hotel the old man owned.

Pakistan shall abolish Blasphemy clauses in Penal Code and declare Pakistan a secular country. All those involved in this heinous crime shall be brought to justice. Villagers who interfered in burial of the victim shall be caged for their unruly conduct and bringing fear and anguish to the family of the departed soul.

And then they say the country is united in fight against terrorism. The mindset has gone so deep that simple military courts cannot fight terrorism. It would need comprehensive steps of managing the madrassas, cutting off their funding, controlling the mullahs in the mosques who through their sermon are taking people backwards, rein in on so called good terrorists like Hafeez Sayeed who may be good now but when he gets a chance he will bring on his taliban style functioning, bring a change in curriculum of education. But there is no one inside Pakistan who can dare take such steps.
If it goes on this path it can never get any progress. Their will always be a security issue as such people would keep taking guns. Today being 1/6th in Population against India (20 Crore vs 125 Crore, which in 1947 was 1/10th- 3 Cr vs 30 Cr) the economy is 1/8th of India. By 2025 it will be 1/10th and 2035 1/13th by projections of all major financial institutions. % of spending is over 3% and to match it will have to go over 6% and 10% maybe by 2035
There is a need to ponder over these issues to bring a realization in the society where they are headed. Even though now it is slightly late but even if things change for good there is some hope. 5 years down the line it would be no coming back. But in the end I don't see any hope and am full of pessimism for the country

Special courts are needed for such kind of cases where people are not able to pursue their cases. If the murderers are not punished, more such cases will happen. In Islamic fiqh, an insane person is absolved of his duties to the Almighty. If Almighty is absolving him, why are people punishing him?

What a shame. our system has gone so corrupt, people have started taking the law in their hands deciding whats they think should have been the judial decsion. This means "anarchy" Incidents like these if brushed under the carpet in the name of religion will have far reaching effects.
The perperators need to be found and given punishment. The question is who will do this? will police under Choudary Nisar do it? Well I dont think so as Mr Nisar has all the other things to worry except for the job he has been entrusted with.

@No Mercy: I agree in wishing that people would display zero tolerance towards corruption but I hope they show that zero tolerance in ways other than shooting the accused. The legal route should be sought, which can be done only if it is EASY, SPEEDY AND JUST. Right now our legal route is none of those things.

Reading about events in Pakistan every day make me feel like I have been transported back to a hideously unimaginable time and place where soulless ghouls with beards, hollow eyes and twisted hearts and minds have cowered the majority into submission -- save for some keyboard warriors -- through their ruthless and frightening harnessing of extreme intolerance and unspeakable violence. There is a lot of talk by politicians, pundits and the well-meaning (while poor army jawans and officers are fighting in the western badlands) and while the font of this evil has been identified for a long time, nobody will attack it at its source. Continue to tip toe around the bleeding obvious and you will not have a country left worth saving.

In India, PK movie made fun of some practices in all religions. More so in Hindu religion. But nobody was arrested for any blasphemy. Nobody was killed. In fact the movie is one of the biggest hits. Most Hindus enjoyed the movie. This is the level of tolerance the country has and this is the basic difference between two countries.
