HYDERABAD: Former president and Pakistan Peoples Party co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari has directed the Sindh government to complete the project of 750 reverse osmosis (RO) plants in Tharparkar by June 2015 to provide clean drinking water to each and every villager of the desert.

He was speaking at the inaugural ceremony of a solar-powered RO plant in Mithi on Wednesday, said a handout.

He termed it a historic day for the people of Tharparkar that the Sindh government’s energy department had completed the execution of Asia’s largest solar RO plant in Tharparkar which would provide “eight million litre clean water”.

He said the government was committed to provision of basic amenities to the people living in far flung areas. He called for early completion of all projects.

He asked the Sindh government to install the maximum number of tub-wells and provide easy loans for development of the livestock sector and other business.

Presiding over a meeting attended by Bakhtawar Bhutto, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah, party parliamentarians and Sindh government functionaries, he emphasised the need for establishment of RO plants in Islamkot, Nagarparkar, Diplo and Dahali. He said a survey for corporate farming was needed and proposed that assistance from local parliamentarians be sought.

He told party workers that the PPP was playing its due role in parliament as the opposition.

According to the handout, he said the country was faced with serious issues and that’s why some tough decisions had to be taken.

He said his party would make sure that anti-terror laws were not misused.
