OKARA: Punjab Minister for Jails Abdul Waheed Arain has said the four new jails in Okara, Pakpattan, Bhakkar and Layyah will be functional by mid-February.

The prison in Okara will be inaugurated by Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif, says a handout.

The minister, who visited the new jail here, said the Sahiwal jail was overburdened as there were 4,000 prisoners in it.

Inspector General (IG) Jails Punjab Mian Farooq Nazir said the Okara district jail had the capacity to accommodate 2,000 prisoners and the new jails would share the burden.
