CHITRAL: A residential colony for the families of martyrs from Chitral Scouts was inaugurated at Singor here on Friday. Keys of houses were given to widows and other relatives of the deceased personnel on the occasion.
Chitral Scouts Commander Lt Col Muhammad Tahir handed over the keys of a house to the widow of Muhammad Karim Naik who laid down his life in Darra Adamkhel on June 26, 2012.
Col Tahir said the colony had been built on the directives of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Frontier Corps Inspector General Maj Gen Muhammad Tayyab Azam.
He said the government had decided to compensate the families by giving them residential plots, free education and stipends to their children and salary till the age of retirement under the ‘Shaheed package’. He thanked the management of the Northern Citizen Community Board for arranging the land on discounted rates for the colony.
Former MPA and Chitral PML-N chief Saeed Ahmad, who is also chairman of the community board, said the plots had been allotted to the widows on concessional rates to help the families of the deceased personnel.
