India not 'World Cup' champions: International Kabbadi Federation

In a shocking development, the International Kabaddi Federation (IKF) has said the recently-concluded Kabbadi World Cup was an unofficial tournament and also expressed reservations about the umpiring in the final of the event played between hosts India and Pakistan.
Talking to DawnNews, the CEO of the IKF, Deoraj Chaturvedi, said the tournament which was held in India recently was not an officially sanctioned event for which the world body was not approached.
"It was just a tournament held by India in which several teams participated. You cannot call it the 'World Cup'. We were not approached by the various Kabbadi federations for approval neither did we sanction the event. We do not recognise India as the World Cup winners simply because it wasn't a World Cup," Chaturvedi said.
He was also surprised at the decision of the Indian federation to nominate local umpires for the final.
"According to regulations, the umpires officiating in the final cannot be from the two countries that make it to the last two."
The IKF official said the federation was only moved to issue a statement on the event after the controversy surrounding the final which was won by hosts India.
Indian Punjab's Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal ordered the formation of a committee to investigate the final after Pakistan captain Ahmed Shafiq alleged that the umpires had favoured India during the match.
Shafiq alleged that the umpires and organising committee misbehaved with the Pakistani players and threatened them.
“If India does not stop this injustice then Pakistan will no longer participate in the event in future,” he had said.

There is nothing to be ashamed of for India. The world body is independent. The guy an Indian amply clarified that this is a local tournament and nothing to do with International Kabaddi Federation (IKF). Be glad that we Indians are bold, open, transparent and admit our mistakes and face the consequences, if any. We don't cry as if we are the victim all the time.The beauty of democracy at its best. this doesnt make sense. the indian kabaddi federation was able to organize the whole event without talking to international kabaddi federation which also sits in india. there seems to be some turf war between indian kabaddi federation and the internatinal kabaddi federation, both of which are indian organizations for all intents and purposes.

this type of kabaddi is very famous in Indian states like Punjab, Hariyana, Rajasthan and MP. We Indian punjabies have made it famous and now some international teams are here to play Pakistan, Iran, UK,USA, Canada, Newzealand, Danmark and many more with some local players and coaches. I know a day will come when this type would be accepted in international circuits and in whole India would be the leader and will lead its all affairs. I proud that we have initiated and have given this a new light of hope, new sports to the world , new events, more fun, more happiness, more competition and business with lots of money. Its Indian Punjabies who take it to European countries made team there and regularly played matches, anyone can go and see on you tube what Indians have contributed in kabaddi.

What recent temperament in sport's world have shown that 'stress and strain' are at play, both on coach & team alike The "gestures of victory" in hockey by Pak player and now, in Kabaddi's unfair umpiring allegations, confirm wickedness in sports..
India should clear the air of unfairness around the match and Punjab CM rightly ordered inquiry meaning something is wrong somewhere. The cover up will be denial and bad which will hit India's credibility even in the eyes of fair minded Indian fans.
Wining is not the motto, but playing fair is the spirit that needs to be appreciated even as a loosing party.

By acting like this Pakistan is going to get affected lot more in the future. I saw the whole match... there was a lot of time wasting by pakistan when they were leading and referees had to make repeated requests to move on with the game. but when pakistans raiders lost crucial points in the last 5 minutes of the game and they were behind and they all of sudden started complaining and crying foul. the whole match is available on Youtube and you can check it.
Kabaddi was only a country sport until Indian punjab started this cup where the award money was 5 Crore Indian rupees. India won all the previous 5 cups by a big margin. Pakistan lost on of the cups in the semi final to Canada!!
The indian world kabaddi league provides employment to many pakistanis and this behavior will only alienate them. I dont foresee them playing in India in the future.
The cup only allows people with citizenship of all countries to play whereas even in cricket world cup the non permanent memebers can field permanent residents...

Both India and Pakistan should always play all sports matches against each other in a neutral country with a neutral venue and impartial referees otherwise you will always have finger pointing at opposition.
On another note, it is totally embarrassing for India to host a tournament, use questionable referees who favour home team and still get stripped of World Title. In real terms it shows nothing but desperation by India to be known on the world stage at any cost.

It was fifth edition of this fake world cup and from very first edition, International Kabaddi Federation (IKF) dose not recognize it. I dont understand why Pakistanis do not have any self respect. They always beg to come to India to play or work and get money. They beg for kabaddi, hockey, cricket IPL begging has cross all limits and they also beg for acting in Indian films. They should rather focus on their own movies and make it more successful there, nothing wrong in it. It is clear IKF was not involved, so it is not official World Cup.
If you are taking words literally (Nawaz) Sharif should really be 'noble', Pakistanis can sue Sharif why he is not. Or why Imran Khan is misleading with his name or the country Pakistan (and of the pure).
I, for one, don't believe ICC World Cup is world cup since few countries in the world participate in it, even if it has got "official" sanction.

Misleading title, if you read the article you will understand the tournament itself was void. If pak had won it, they would not have been world champions either. If there was injustice done, lets wait for the report by official bodies validating it, don't jump to prejudiced conclusions.

If Pakistan does not want to participate, let them not participate. Don't blame entire country for that. Open your eyes towards Peshawar incident, that's when entire India stood up, all government offices, schools and even the state and central assemblies observed silence and whole India mourned. It's a stupid to think of a contraversial unofficial tournament to represent whole India.

Couldn't IKF take action before the event was organised? Why was it called World Cup? it could have been given local/regional name....it was designated World Cup just to create audience and gain sponsorship/advertisement revenue.....totally farce.

Side note, this should never be called World Cup. It should just be called Punjab Cup. Look at the spectators and even players all Punjabis. Rest just show up for taste of Controversy.

@kp Kabaddi will never survive outside of Punjab. Grassroot teams are supported by local people in Punjab and Punjabi people abroad once these badals are done with no one will be able support it and players will suffer. I don't even know why there is a world Kabaddi federation no one really gives a damn about world kabaddi federation. No teams in North America or Europe really abide by them.

@Rana India played cricket matches in Sharjah and i think in Canada also with Pakistan previously and also Pakistani Player took part in IPL but after 2008 Mumbai incident India denied to play with Pakistan and disallow participation of Pakistani player.

What is "International Kabaddi Federation"? I never heard of it, neither any of the participating teams in this world cup including Pakistan team. They are irrelevant and after the fact spoilsports.
Partial umpiring is very bad for any game. It must be reviewed, investigated and guilty must be punished.

the match was a full 40 minute match it was not cut short, third umpire was Pakistani along with 1 Iranian and 1 Indian, there was no wrong point given to either teams, every player (being one my self) puts on oil a day before tournament or even on the same day before match, i think chishti was just frustrated at the fact they almost won but lost in the dying seconds, hes a great player and team Pakistan played amazing but there was nothing wrong with the match soo please stop spreading romours!!
