ISLAMABAD: The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has agreed to help the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government improve the urban transport system, particularly in Peshawar.

Official sources said the ADB would provide $1.5 million as technical assistance grant to the KP government for the purpose.

According to sources, the total aid being approved by the ADB is $1.6m, out of which $1.5m will be given as grant. On its part, the provincial government will provide support in the form of counterpart staff, office space and data.

The Peshawar Urban Mobility Authority will be established to regulate, plan and coordinate the urban transport system in the city and a company to be known as ‘Peshawar Bus Rapid Transit Company’ will be set up to implement and later manage the BRT operations.
